Ashleigh Proudfoot and Steve Douglas were a very special couple from 2012, and their wedding left a lasting impression on the industry. Frequent Muskoka crowds were a buzz about their wedding, on July 21st, 2012, which transformed Lake Joseph Club into an incredible event space with abundant lush white florals, crystallic chandeliers, and rare decor experiences.
They were engaged on a yacht, ‘Sweet Escape’ while sailing to a secluded beach near the island of Barbuda. Ashleigh recalls a breath-taking sunset, horses trotting on the sand, and the crew delivering a bottle of Cristal. The proposal was a moment that both Ashleigh and Steve will cherish for a lifetime.
Both Ashleigh and Steve enjoy the cottage life in Port Carling, Muskoka. Naturally, they wanted to celebrate their day in a place they love most! They turned to Anne Anderson to create an incredible and elegant environment within the natural setting of their getaway destination. With gardens and lakes as their backdrop, Ashleigh and Steve wed in high style.
The entire wedding was designed to wow, and began with our invitations. We created a beautiful custom hardcover silk folio with a cushioned cover, which was all crafted by hand. On the front of the invitation, we tailored a beautiful monogram with an ornate Baroque border that was custom hand-drawn. The design was also inspired by the twelve large oversized dining hall mirrors, which were made custom for the wedding. Inside the folio, Ashleigh and Steve’s initials were pressed in silver, which sat above a beautiful main piece with the silver-pressed invitation wording. In the cloth pocket, we placed the map, accommodations information and reply card with envelope. The suite was presented and mailed in a custom die cut mailer that was a hybrid between a box and envelope; the edge of the flap made an impressive first impression in a delicate Baroque shape tailored to echo the interiors of the invitation.
Our work continued into the event day, first through stationery design; we created letterpress-printed menus, programs, cocktail signs and place cards. The placecards were particularly noteworthy, as we made beautiful little paper frames that resembled the emblem on the front of the invitation. Each were attached to a silver ornate stand made of silver pearlized paper, which was a feat in die cutting due to its intricate edges. Lastly, the names of guests were written in silver calligraphy within each frame. The placecards were a spectacular display, and set the tone at the entrance to dinner.
In addition to stationery, we also designed the graphics for the large dance floor, and all the custom patterning for the event. Anne designed a 15-foot custom bar with custom silk screening of the couple’s monogram that we designed. For the groom’s lounge, we created a stunning Baroque pattern which spun off the invitation design — it elevated the entire space. Four oversized white crystal pendants hung from the tent ceiling above the stunning dance floor at dinnertime. After dinner, the tent became the “Coffee Bar,” where guests enjoyed specialty coffees and gourmet teas under the stars. We also prepared artwork for custom silk pillows with the couple’s monogram silk-screened in silver. The pillows were placed on each side of the bornes in the lounge areas in cabanas, and taken home for personal use and as a keepsake after the wedding. Design, from décor to florals, and from to stationery and graphics, played an integral role in the wedding experience.
Not one detail was too small, and all the details made this wedding one of the top weddings in Canada in 2012. Ashleigh and Steve’s wedding was published in the Winter/Spring 2013 Edition of Wedluxe Magazine.
