In 2013, Bayer, a global leader in healthcare, crop and material sciences, reached its big milestone of 150 years. PALETTERA was commissioned to design a memorable and relevant invitation for this incredible year of celebration, specifically for 2 galas — the 150th Gala at the Toronto MaRS Centre in the Discover district and a party at the RCMP Heritage Centre in Calgary. At the Toronto gala, Bayer honoured outstanding Canadians who had made significant contributions to the Canadian society through science and innovation. Their motto, “Science for a Better Life,” is something they embrace in their practice of both Science and Innovation.
Award winners — educators, researchers, scientists, leaders in business and philanthropy, and healthcare were honoured at a special ceremony on Tuesday, May 28, 2013. Hosted by physician and television personality Dr. Marla Shapiro, herself an honouree for her work in women’s health, the evening featured over 300 prominent members of Canada’s health, agriculture and science industries. They also showcased their Science for a Better Life exhibit, a mobile museum that went on to make stops around the world in Asia, Africa, the Americas, and Australia.
Our design was sleek and intelligent. We were inspired by the basics of science — the very atoms and molecules that matter is made of. Secondly, we were inspired by Water, H2O, which allows us our daily lives and the source that connects all nations as one earth. Each guest received an atom of “Hydrogen” or “Oxygen,” represented by a blue or green pearlized circle. Through contemporary and iconic typography, we pressed the invitation in a brilliant silver on both sides. For extra durability, all the atoms were duplexed before being sealed in a frosted translucent envelope. Guests names were printed within the centre, extending to branches of molecule configurations.
