Year-in-Review: Cristina & Frank, married in October 2010 at the Terrace

Exactly a year ago, Cristina & Frank were married at the Terrace. Cristina, a PhD candidate at the time, and fiance to Frank, a corporate lawyer in Toronto, came to our studio excited with her vision for her big day: dramatic Spanish romance with an Italian twist. She and her mom both loved Valentino red: a passionate, high-style and mysterious colour that is timeless and seductive. When you pair Spanish and red together, what comes to mind right away? Spanish bullfighting and ballroom dance with the Spanish bull fighting atmosphere, The Paso Doble. Dramatic, passionate, and slightly arrogant, the dance in the ballroom of the world stage, has presented some beautiful choreography and costumes that are striking.

The art direction of Cristina & Frank’s invitations fully embraced the theme. We took inspiration from Spanish roses, vintage embroidery and costume details from both the Paso Doble and Spanish bull fights — a plethora of visually stimulating elements. On the cover of the invitation, I illustrated a custom monogram design, adorned with beautiful flourishes and a beautiful mirror-shaped border. This was then cast into a die and foil pressed into the grooves of the beautiful willow textured red stock. The double ribboning on the cover also added some dimension to the piece, bridging the lighter red tones with deeper bordeaux. The inside of the invitation featured a full colour illustration of abstracted Spanish roses, accompanied by some old serif & script typefaces. The backdrop of a yellowed buttercream and peaches help to tie together the reds and golds. This suite that we created for Cristina & Frank was one of most dramatic and theatric pieces — brings out the passionate pout and romantic story of a modern, fun, and stylish couple!

Some highlights of their relationship milestones that Cristina shared with us…
“We met at a New Year’s Eve over 10 years ago, where a group of mutual friends all attended the same gala. He proposed to me on a romantic weekend at Niagara on the lake, where he surprised me while on a private wine tour of Peller Estates by getting down
on one knee and asking me to spend the rest of my life with him. We honeymooned in San Francisco and then Hawaii (Honolulu, Kauai and Maui).” What beautiful memories they have 🙂

Below are photo highlights of the big day by a Frame of Mind photography, with stationery images shot in-studio by the awesome Claudia Hung.

Cristina walked down the aisle in an absolutely breath-taking Ines Di Santos gown and veil, and with a pair of Christian Louboutin‘s. The bridesmaids all wore gorgeous red Dominic Serrio Couture dresses with beautiful bouquets of red roses designed by Rosarium. Up against the vintage fencing in the Black Creek Pioneer Village, the colours really popped! The groom and groomsmen were well-dressed too! Frank was in a posh Armani Collezioni tuxedo, and his boys fitted by Panetta Menswear.

The reds were carried throughout the day, into the reception at the Terrace, where there were roses on the cake by Dessert Trends, centrepieces by Luxel and of course all the stationery by Palettera: menus, wish tree tags, table numbers and bombiniere stickers. Up against all the golds and reds, Cristina’s stunning white wedding gown truly stood out.

Family & friends were so impressed with the luxurious details of this wedding. Cristina & Frank successfully carried out a beautiful “Spanish romance”-inspired Italian wedding that will be talked about for years to come.

Happy 1st anniversary Cristina & Frank!
